Phil entered eternal peace on January 21, 2010 at Pathways Hospice in Loveland, Colorado. Memorial services will be held at Tennant Funeral Home in Sterling on Monday, February 1st, 2010 at 11am with Frank Waitley officiating.

Philip Alan Bostron was born October 8, 1947 to Donald John and Leah Ruth (Jenneman) Bostron in Sterling, Colorado. The family farmed near Atwood until Phil was 10, and then moved to Strasburg where Phil worked in his dad’s gas station and delivered newspapers. Don & Leah returned to Sterling in 1964 but Phil remained in Strasburg with his sister, Donna, so that he could graduate in 1965 with his class of 12 from Strasburg High School. He then returned to Sterling to help on the family farm, work construction, and attend NJC. In 1967 he enlisted in the US Army, and was assigned to the 19th Aviation Battalion in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was a crew chief of the 12th Aviation Company for the U-21 King Air, attaining the classification of E6 SSG within 2 years, and also receiving Ft Wainwright’s “1968 Soldier of the Year” for the Yukon Command. He was selected for West Point, but chose to return to Sterling to be close to his family. Phil spent 8 years selling cars before going to work with Plains Irrigation in 1976. While working there, he became interested in the efficiency of sprinkler irrigation systems and opened his own business “Bostron Irrigation Services” in 1982. During the winter, he took a job at Colorado Beef Company as a welder. A couple of years later, a close friend convinced him to become an Ag Loan Officer with First National Bank. He trained & worked in the Sterling, Holyoke, and Denver branches before coming back to Sterling and joining Commercial Bank. After fighting health problems for several years, Phil hung up his suit & tie in 1995. He was then able to enjoy his favorite hobbies of puttering around the farm, barbecuing, and spending time with friends & family. Most of all, he was able to catch a lot of fish with his dear friend Wayne Pimple, until the health problems also put a stop to that in 2006.

Phil married Judy Kay Getz in l974 and had 2 wonderful sons, John Philip and Jason Richard, who were the center of his life. He said many times that they were the reason he could carry on. Ultimately, he became their “hero” and “mentor”. He enjoyed to have friends and family around, and always kept the doors open to everyone. Because of this, he was introduced to Leon Coffee – Rodeo Clown – who for the first few years only remembered Phil as the “Corn Man”. Phil loved hosting an annual Fair Picnic with lots of barbecued corn for Leon and other rodeo clowns, and built an everlasting friendship with them all. Phil is survived and sadly missed by his wife Judy; son John and fiancée Denise Samulak, son Jason; sisters Donna Hanlon, Kathy & Ralph Boling, Johnene & Steve Barras; aunts Christeene Bostron and Shirley Stoner; brothers-in-law Gary Getz, Ron Getz, and Bob Getz; sister-in-law Carole & John Kerker; cousin Conrad Bostron; and many loved-ones, nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins. He will be equally missed by his very best friends Wayne & Betty Pimple and family, and Ralph Bird & family. Phil was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 1336, and American Legion Post 20.

Phil will be greeted in Heaven by his parents Don & Leah Bostron; father & mother-in-law Richard & Thelma Getz; grandparents John & Amelia Bostron, Bill & Opal Jenneman; brother-in-law Keith Hanlon, uncle Harry Bostron, friend Larry Morris, and “Grandpa” Ivan Brown. Phil’s family would like to thank Lt Ben Murray for going above & beyond a friendship. Also to Jason Santomaso for giving Phil the gift of mobility so that he could enjoy his final summer. In leiu of flowers, Phil wished to have donations made in his memory, in care of Tennant Funeral Home to; Pathways Hospice of Loveland, Logan County Humane Society, or Cowboy-Up Ministries of Sterling.
