Coy Dale “Dale” Morgan, 92, of Atwood, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, in Sterling. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at the Living Word Church of God with Rev. Wayne Hasselquist officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth.
Dale was born on Oct. 25, 1917, in Morland, Kan., to Coy C. and Ida (Gordman) Morgan. He was the sixth of eight brothers and sisters. He graduated from Grandview Grade School and Morland High School in Morland.
At the age of 21, he went into the Civilian Conservation Corps until 1939. After being discharged, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on a sub chaser in the Pacific during World War II until 1945.
He married Norma Jean Boley in 1947 and they divorced some years later. He married Nona Glaze on June 7, 1969, in Golden. He was working for Gibson Discount Stores in La Junta, where they lived until they moved to North Platte, Neb., and then later Sterling. He retired after 20 years of service with Gibsons.
He was retired for four years and then went to work at Wal-Mart as a cart pusher and then a greeter for 16 years. He retired again at the age of 88.
Dale enjoyed gardening and was very active in church and church organizations. He especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by son, Norman Morgan and wife Donna of Shilo, Ariz.; daughter, Nancy Delay and husband Mike of Denver; step-daughters, Mary Williams and husband Dennis of Atwood and Janette King and husband Larry of Tensleep, Wyo.; brothers, Everett of Denver and DeVere of Gatesville, Texas; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Ida; first wife, Norma Jean Boley; wife, Nona Morgan; three brothers, Hillard, Oran, Elwin; two sisters, Mable and Mildred; and one step-son, Raymond Glaze.
