Althea E. (Delander) Dowis, 96, of Wheat Ridge, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, in Wheat Ridge. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Tennant Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Tennant Funeral Home with the Rev. Derek Detoni-Hill officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Althea was born on Oct. 19, 1913, in Haxtun, to John Miton and Dola Marguerita (Hallgren) Delander. She graduated from school in Haxtun and nursing school at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver. She worked as Dr. McKnight’s nurse in Haxtun and then the Good Samaritan Hospital in Sterling. She married R. Donald “Tex” Dowis in 1938 in Denver. She was a member of the Grey Cross Ladies in Sterling. She enjoyed playing bridge and loved people, her dear friends, and of course her family.

Althea is survived by her sons, Roger T. and wife Cami of Boulder, John C. and wife Sharron of Casa Grande, Ariz., William D. and wife Sandy of Gunnison; daughters, Donna D. Drake and husband Ron of Arvada and Sally J. Catron and husband David of Castle Rock; sister, Marquerite Baker of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Donald Dowis; brothers, Harold F. and John F. Delander; grandson, Roman D. Catron.
